Background: Hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state (HHS) is a life-threatening condition that can be the initial presentation of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This condition is characterized by severe hyperglycaemia, a high serum osmolality and dehydration without accumulation of ketoacids.
